Rules
The World League of Baseball runs on Diamond Mind Baseball using 1989 American League player data. Six human-managed teams compete alongside two intentionally constructed CPU squads. All rules below are binding. Questions go to the commissioner. Rulings are final.

League Structure

Teams
8 total teams: 6 human-managed, 2 CPU-controlled (PCB Hurricanes and ORN Nukes). CPU teams are filled after the human draft concludes with remaining eligible players.
Player Pool
1989 American League statistics only. Player eligibility minimums apply:
  • Position players: 400 plate appearances
  • Catchers: 300 plate appearances
  • Starting pitchers: 150 innings pitched
  • Relief pitchers: 50 innings pitched (tentative)
Draft
Snake draft. Order determined randomly, reversing each round. Draft picks cannot be traded. Ballpark selection follows the player draft in reverse draft order.
Schedule
Season runs week by week, Sunday through Saturday. Games are simulated in batches (approximately 10 days at a time) by the commissioner on Sundays. Results and box scores distributed after each run.

Roster Rules

Roster Size
26-man active roster (25 drafted players + your manager-player). Each manager plays as a position player on their own team. 5 minor league spots per team.
Manager-Player Ratings
Each manager's player may designate one rating as Excellent, two as Very Good, and the rest Average. Available ratings vary by position:
  • Batters: Sacrifice Bunt, Bunt for Hit, Running, Jump, Steal, Clutch, Throwing Arm
  • Pitchers: Durability (SP), Durability (RP), Injury (Iron), Holding Runners, Jam
Manager-players can play OF, IF, C, or P. These ratings are subject to league review and may be tweaked.
Majors/Minors Movement
Movement between the active roster and minor league spots is unlimited week to week. No cooldown period. Call up and send down freely with no penalty.

Transactions

Releases & Waivers
When a player is released, they enter a waiver claim window for the current week. Claim priority is assigned in reverse standings order (worst record gets first claim). After the week passes, unclaimed players become first-come, first-served free agents.
The releasing team cannot immediately re-claim their own player during the waiver window.
How to Claim / Sign
Contact Commissioner Brett Houlberg directly (text). He confirms the transaction and inputs it into Diamond Mind. Linked transactions (release one to make room for a signing) are permitted.
Trades
A formal trade deadline is noted on the Schedule page. Draft picks cannot be traded. Player-for-player trades between managers are permitted; contact the commissioner to execute. Minor league offers between teams: open rule, not yet officially decided - confirm with commissioner.

Lineup & Settings

Submission Deadline
All lineup and roster changes must be submitted via your Manager Profile on the website by Saturday. The commissioner inputs changes into Diamond Mind over the weekend.
Use the Batting Lineup and Pitching Lineup tabs in your Manager Profile to make changes. All changes are saved automatically.
Pitching Rotation
Rotation order sets your ace at #1, but does not determine who pitches next. The computer selects based on last appearance and your rotation setting:
  • STRICT Next pitcher always goes regardless of rest days
  • SKIP On a day off, rotation skips to the next pitcher
A "Next Starter" override box is available. If used, that pitcher starts next regardless of rotation. Leave blank to let the computer decide. Use with caution.
Rating Scale
1 = more aggressive | 5 = more conservative

Legacy Keeper System

How Many
Each team may retain up to 2 legacy players for the following season.
Duration
A player may be kept for a maximum of 2 consecutive seasons on the same team. Time on a previous team does not count toward the current team's legacy clock.
Tradeable
Legacy players can be traded between teams. The legacy clock follows the player to the new team and resets to zero.
Legacy keepers will use 1990 stats for the following season. Keeper strategy matters: a player who excelled in 1989 may rate differently under 1990 data. Research both seasons before committing. Strong keeper targets are players whose 1990 numbers match or exceed their 1989 performance. High-OBP, high-OPS, durable injury ratings remain the baseline criteria.

Website Rules

Manager Accounts
Each manager receives a unique username and password for accessing the Manager Profile. Keep your credentials secure. Contact the commissioner if you need a password reset.
Profile Lock Window
Manager Profiles cannot be changed between 12:00 AM and 12:00 PM (noon) on Sundays. This lock ensures rosters and lineups are finalized before game simulation begins.
Simulation Schedule
Games are simulated on Sundays by the commissioner. Results, box scores, and updated standings are posted to the website after each simulation batch completes.
Lineup Submissions
Use the Manager Profile to submit batting orders and pitching rotations. Changes made after the Sunday lock window will apply to the following week's games.
Notification Preferences
Managers can configure email notifications for game results, podcast episodes, roster moves, and other updates via the Notifications tab on the Manager Profile.
Manager Chat
The Manager Chat is for league discussion only. Keep it civil. The commissioner reserves the right to moderate content. Messages are visible to all managers.
